How to Make an Easy Gift Card Holder Using Your Cricut

Sharing is caring!

Here we are at Day 7 on my 12 Days of Christmas Crafting. This project is how to make an easy gift card holder using your Cricut.

For me, many gifts nowadays are gift cards. In some instances, it’s easy when you don’t know someone very well – like teachers or colleagues. But gift cards are also good for people you’ve known a long time – like family and good friends. My brother and his wife are quite established and have pretty much everything they need. I don’t need to go and buy any trinkets, so I tend to get gift cards to restaurants or movies. Something that they can enjoy on their own.

To make the presentation of the gift card a little nicer, I came up with an easy gift card holder template using my Cricut. You will find the link to the free Cricut Design Space template in my Free Resource Library. In order to gain access, simply subscribe to my newsletter and you will find the password at the bottom of the newsletter.

The Cricut Design Space template consists of 3 elements to make it – print, then, score and then cut.

This project could not be any easier – you just need some cardstock and some glue.

How to Customize the Gift Card Holder Template

  • open up the gift card holder template
  • it is sized for a standard-sized gift card (like a credit card)
  • you can easily resize it in Cricut Design Space
  • I prefer to do print and then cut, as opposed to draw since I am too cheap to purchase the writing fonts!
  • first – hide the score lines by clicking the “eyes” on the right-hand side
  • write out your message in your desired font and then attach.
  • position your message on top of the gift card holder template
  • size your text accordingly and centre your text
  • flatten the text to the card
NOTE: it is important that the score lines are hidden (you don’t want to flatten the score lines with the card). It should be the card and text only.
  • repeat if adding additional text
  • once you have all the text, un-hide the score lines by clicking on the “eyes” on the right-hand side again
  • attach the score lines to the card
  • make it – you will be asked to print first.

  • then you will put it into your Cricut machine and score (I still use the scoring tool) and then finally your Cricut will cut it.

  • using the score lines, fold the gift card holder so that it makes a little envelope. Aren’t those score lines handy?

  • secure the sides with glue
  • if using fairly heavy cardstock, you’ll want to put a heavy book on top of it, overnight so that the glue sticks
  • insert your gift card and you’re good to go!

Personalization Options

Want to change it up a bit? This gift card holder template is easy to personalize and customize. You can customize it for any occasion – not just Christmas. Think birthdays and thank you gifts. Here are some options:

  • Using your Cricut, cut a message that you can glue on. I personally like a 3D effect and so I like to use those foam squares that are adhesive on both sides.
  • Using an embossing tool to add an extra, embossed layer on top.
  • You could “write” on the card if you have any writing fonts. In order to do this, you will have to purchase one of the Cricut writing fonts and have a pen that you can add to the machine so that it “writes” the message. Please note how the text is orientated with regard to the template.
  • Glue on decorations, including cut-outs on your Cricut.
