How to Apply HTV on Socks
Working with heat transfer vinyl (HTV) is a lot of fun. While the first thing that may come to mind is shirts, did you know that you can also put HTV on socks?
These socks make great gifts, including stocking stuffers. You can put pretty much anything you want on them. Perhaps the most popular sayings are the “If You Can Read This, Please Bring Me….” ones. You can finish the sentence any way you want.
The basic procedure for making these socks is the same for pretty much everything. You can check out my HTV basics here.
What Type of HTV Can I use?
There are a variety of types of HTV that you can put on socks.
TYPES OF HTV
- regular HTV like Siser Easy Weed – many use regular HTV on socks with great success
- stretch HTV – some people prefer this as the sock can be stretched
- flock HTV – this adds texture and even makes the socks non-slip.
How to Put HTV on Socks
Since socks are smaller and typically are folded in a way that they don’t really sit flat, there could be some challenges.
One thing that can be done is to insert a piece of cardboard into the sock which makes it nice and flat. Be careful to not cut the cardboard too big.
Also be careful about putting that cardboard in conjunction with your heat-press, Cricut Easy Press or iron. When in doubt, do shorter spurts of pressing and press it multiple times.
You may have to adjust the pressure on your heat-press as the cardboard makes the socks “thicker” and you may not be able to close it properly.
These socks make a great gift for any occasion. I love how you can customize it to say anything you want.
