How to Make Easy, Rolled Felt Flowers

Sharing is caring!

Rolled flowers are easy to make. I’ve made them out of cardstock, but now I wanted to try something different. I wanted to make rolled felt flowers.

I thought that rolled felt flowers would be pretty embellishments to headbands and other items. But is making rolled felt flowers the same as making them out of cardstock?

Well the answer is yes and no. It is pretty much the same, but there is a bit of a difference.

Supplies Needed

  • felt fabric – you can get this from a variety of places including craft stores, fabric stores and even the dollar store.
  • cutting machine like a Cricut; I use a Cricut Maker which makes it easy to cut felt
  • rolled felt flower template – you can find many templates on Google; for this project I used the one found here
  • glue – fabric glue, like Aileen’s Tacky Glue, or even a glue gun works well with felt.

How to Cut Rolled Felt Flowers with Your Cricut Maker

The Cricut Maker has the ability to cut fabric. To cut felt, I used my pink mat and the rotary cutter. The cut setting that I used was simply the “felt” setting.

It’s so easy to cut felt with my Cricut Maker – it’s so much easier than trying to cut it by hand.

How to Make the Rolled Felt Flowers

Now, when I made rolled flowers with cardstock, I used a quilling tool – this helped hold the cardstock and make a nice, rolled flower.

With felt, it’s even easier – you don’t need a quilling tool! In fact, when I tried it with a quilling tool or tweezers, I found that the flower was actually rolled too tight and it didn’t look as nice. I actually found it easier to roll it by hand!

Making rolled felt flowers is the same technique – start with the outside part of the template and roll until you get to the end.

The “fat” part of the end is the base of the flower. Put some glue there and press your flower down to set it.

The larger the cut template, the larger the rose. I wanted to make small ones for a headband and so I cut mine at xx inches.
