Supplies Needed
It doesn’t take much to make a personalized watering can.
- adhesive vinyl in the colour of your choice. I think permanent vinyl works best, but removable vinyl would also work – as long as no one picked at it.
- machine to cut the adhesive vinyl. I have a Cricut Maker
- weeding tool for vinyl
- transfer paper for the vinyl
- watering can – you can get these at hardware stores, gardening stores, or even cute little ones at the dollar store. I prefer a metal one (the vinyl sticks better), with straight sides (it makes the application of the vinyl easier) – but work with whatever you can find.
How to Personalize a Watering Can
- determine your design or graphic – remember you can do both sides of the watering can if you wish
- cut your design out of the adhesive vinyl
- weed your design
- apply your design to the watering can
TIP: depending on the surface, it may seem that your adhesive vinyl may not stick. You can give it a bit of help by blasting it with the heat from a hairdryer. Be sure to let it sit for a day to cure completly.

gift ideas for a personalized watering can.
- birthday gift for the gardener – personalize with a cute or cheeky saying
- Mother’s Day – pair this with a little plant or some fresh cut flowers and a card
- teacher gifts – I loved making these end of the year, teacher gifts.
TIP: don’t purchase the plants too early so that they can be in bloom when it’s presented.
Don’t forget that there are 2 sides to the watering can. You can also have a saying or a name on the other side as well.
