As I have been working with essential oils, I am developing a love for the energizing and motivating qualities that it can have. Sometimes the smells uplift me and other times, they relax me. I am amazed at the power of smell to affect your mood.

I’m lucky that I don’t have too long a commute but I was wanting something to really energize me in the morning on my drive into work.

Supplies Needed

I made a similar diffuser at Christmas to hang on my Christmas tree so that it would smell like a Christmas tree. Check out my post on how to make a Felted Christmas Ornament Diffuser here. This is pretty much the same craft, but with a slight modification.

  • wool felt balls – these come in a variety of sizes and colours; it’s all a matter of personal preference
  • embroidery thread
  • embroidery needle – I find the easiest to use are the ones with a large eye.
  • scissors
  • small wooden clothespins – I found some in the dollar store. This allows you to clip it to something in order to hang it. If you prefer, you could substitute a hook instead. I find that these small clothespins clip to the air vents easily.
  • essential oils – there are just so many to choose from.

How to Make a Simple Essential Oil Diffuser for the Car

The technique is the same as for the Christmas Ornament.

  • Decide on the number and colour of wool felt balls you would like to use.
  • Determine the order you want them in.
  • Choose some embroidery thread to match and thread your needle with it. Use a length at least 2 times the length of the layout of your wool felt balls.
  • Thread your embroidery thread through the clothespin and tie it to form a loop.
  • Secure with a knot.
  • You are now going to thread all of the felt balls with your embroidery needle.
  • You will work from the top to the bottom.
  • Put your needle down through the centre of each felt ball.
  • When you get to the final wool felt ball, make a tiny stitch and go back up so that the embroidery thread is between the last and the second last wool felt ball.
  • Tie a knot to secure.
  • Trim your embroidery thread.

You are done! You can make a whole bunch as this is such an easy craft.

Essential Oil Car Blend

I want to share my favourite essential oil car blend with you. Smelling this in my car on my commute is a great way to start my day. I feel energized and motivated. I look forward to going to work and knowing that I can be productive.

This is a great way to use up an empty essential oil bottle. I used one that previously had wild orange in it. If you can, pick an empty bottle that has one of the oils in your blend. That way you don’t have to clean it or worry about the original oil in the bottle not going with your blend.

The doTerra labels peel off easily. You’ll have to clean off the stickiness. Lemon essential oil works great for that. Then I used my Cricut to cut out a bit of adhesive vinyl to label the blend.

I don’t fill the entire bottle up as I don’t need a whole bottle of this blend. I just need a little bit for the car. This way, I can always change it up if I feel like something else.

To use, simply put a couple of drops onto the felt balls before driving. As the air circulates throughout your car you can enjoy the wonderful aromas of the essential oils.

Don’t limit yourself to the car! These can hook anywhere you want a simple diffuser – the laundry room, a closet, your office or even a bedroom. There are so many possibilities.
