Okay so baby Yoda isn’t really a part of the movie that opens today, but it’s a part of Star Wars. We’ve been watching The Mandalorian on the new Disney+ streaming service. If you’re familiar with this Star Wars show, you’ll know all about baby Yoda who simply steals the show.
Yoda is a very popular Star Wars character. I remember one of my boys dressing up as Yoda for Halloween when he was little. Baby Yoda is just as cute and so, of course, I had to crochet one.
I’ve crocheted all of the Star Wars amigurumi by Lucy Ravenscar. I have reviewed her book Star Wars Crochet, as well as the sequel, Star Wars Even More Crochet – part one and part two.
You will need to purchase the first Star Wars kit in order to make this crochet baby Yoda.
The first Star Wars book includes a pattern for Yoda. The creator, Lucy Ravenscar has included directions on how to modify the pattern in her book to make baby Yoda. You can find the crochet baby Yoda modification here in her blog post.

Tips and Modifications to the Crochet Baby Yoda Pattern
The pattern works really well. All of her patterns are easy to follow and make. I did, however, make a few modifications, to her modifications.
- I used 12mm eyes as I like really big eyes. It seems to match the character more.
- I made the arms shorter as I thought they looked more proportionate that way. I only went up to row 6.
- Be careful to not overstuff the head. Baby Yoda has kind of a flat head. Don’t put too much of the fibre fill in there so that you can flatten it a bit.
- You also don’t want to overstuff the body so that it sits lower. After all, he is just a baby.
- Make sure you skew the scarf/neckpiece. One corner should be hanging down a bit. It’s hard to tell in the pattern picture but if you Google Baby Yoda photos, you’ll see that it is askew. It looks like a v-neck.
