Sonia Estep Designs is known for its great patterns. I’ve been fortunate enough to test a few of them for her. Recently, I’ve tested the Kira pattern for her.
The SED Kira Pattern
Kira can be a tank top, short dress, or maxi dress. It features a racerback.
I know this is going to be a wardrobe staple for me. This design is just like that of my favourite lululemon cool racerback tank tops.
I love being able to recreate and sew my own lululemon. Previously, I wrote all about how to sew your own lululemon leggings, as well as how to sew a particular lululemon outfit that I have. Now I can add this racerback to the mix.
The three different lengths make this a versatile pattern with multiple options.
Fabric Suggestions
The SED Kira pattern is drafted for knit fabrics.
I think of this pattern as an athletic piece and so athletic fabrics come to mind for me. However, consider sewing this pattern in other knit fabrics for a different look.
Keep in mind that the type of fabric may affect the fit of the garment. Thinner and more drapey fabrics will result in a looser fit, while fabrics with more structure may result in a snugger fit.
There are many more. Even within the realm of athletic fabrics, there are options like supplex, angelskin, yoga stretch, and interlock chitosante just to name a few.

Sewing Pattern Review
This is a very straightforward pattern that is quick and easy to sew.
There are basically only 2 pattern pieces – the front and the back. Then you just have the bindings.
Pattern pieces for bindings are provided. I, however, like to use the binding attachment on my cover stitch machine.
Sometimes the simplest patterns are the best. This is definitely one of them.
The tank top turned out exactly like my lulu tank. I used angelskin Fabric from Discovery Fabrics which feels just like lululemon fabric.
I also sewed up a dress. I love how it turned out. It’s so comfortable and easy to wear. I also made this from angelskin. It’s basically just an elongated tank top.
