How to Make a Felt Christmas Tree Garland
Here we are already on day 6 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting. We are halfway through! Today’s craft is a great one to do with kids – it’s how to make a felt Christmas tree garland.
Garlands are easy decorations to make for the holidays. They are relatively small and so they store easily when not in use.
One of the things I just love about my Cricut Maker is that it cuts fabric so easily. Even though this project can be done by hand, the Cricut Maker just makes this a super easy project that looks great.
Supplies Needed to Make a Felt Christmas Tree Garland
- green felt fabric – available at fabric stores or craft stores
- Christmas Tree template – I found a free one in Cricut Design space. I’ve saved it and sized it for you. The tree template is actually intended to be cut from cardstock, but you can use it for felt too. You can access it for free from my Free Resource Library by subscribing to my newsletter – the password is located at the bottom of my letter.
- Cricut Maker to cut the felt, but don’t fret – you can also cut my hand. The Cricut Air 2 also cuts felt.
- twine or yarn to make your garland
- glue gun and/or tacky glue
- decorations for the Christmas Trees – I used mini pom-poms and rhinestone stars from the dollar store.

How to Make a Felt Christmas Tree Garland
- open up the Cricut Design Space template and cut as many Christmas tree as desired. I’ve sized it to 6 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Feel free to re-size to whatever works best for you.
- Here are the settings I used to cut the felt. After clicking the Make it button in the top right-hand corner, here are your prompts:
1. Material – Felt
2. Load tools and mat – I prefer my rotary blade, so select “Edit Tools” and change it to the rotary blade.
- I cut 5 trees. I find that odd numbers look best. If this is a kids project – cut one for each child. That could range from 3 to 25 for a whole class!
- Decorate the Christmas trees. I simply glued a star at the top and then mini pom-poms onto mine. Be creative – the possibilities are endless.
- This is where you could have each child decorate their own tree.
- Glue your Christmas trees to twine or yarn to make a garland.
This project is so cute. It really couldn’t be any easier. You just need all the trees. I love easy projects that you can do with children.
