How to Easily Make a Tag Using Your Cricut

Sharing is caring!

For Day 7 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting, I’m going to show you how to easily make a tag using your Cricut machine. Last year I made these quick and easy gift tags.  They were very simple. This tag is a little bit different as it includes a recipe to go with my homemade gift.

This year I’ve made some homemade pancake mix to gift to friends. I love practical gifts. These are perfect for busy families.  There are a lot of instant pancake mix recipes online, but my favourite one is by Alton Brown on the Food Network. This is a great recipe that uses basic items in your pantry. I keep this on hand. It’s easy to whip up a batch of pancakes on the weekend with this mix.

At home, I keep it in a big container with the instructions labelled right on it. I literally dump all the ingredients into this container and use a whisk to mix it all together.

In order to gift this pancake mix, we need to make a tag using your Cricut with the instructions.  The tag would include instructions on what to add to the pancake mix as these are just the dry ingredients. Using the print and cut feature on your Cricut, you can great a tag for pretty much anything.

Step By Step Directions on How to Make a Tag Using Your Cricut

  1. Open up Design Space
  2. Choose a tag design. There are lots of shapes that can be used. Make sure it has a little hole up top so that you can tie it to your gift. There are a few options here.
    – There are several tag options in Cricut Design Space (click on Images on the left and search for tag).
    – You could also upload a tag template you find online (google “tag template” and several will come up) – then click Upload on the left and add to Design Space.
    – You could also make your home using the Shapes option on the left. You can make a little hole on it by placing a small circle in the spot, selecting both and then slicing. Then remove the circles and you are left with the hole.
  3. Write out your text using the text option on the far left. Size it to fit your tag. Alternately, size your tag to fit your text. You can “unlock” the sizing of either one but make it fit the way you want. Remember to leave a bit of a border around.
  4. Be creative with colour! This is being printed on your printer, so if you have a colour printer, you can add colour.
  5. Sometimes, because of spacing, I will have more than one text box. I find it easier to manipulate the spacing this way. If you do this, once you are happy with everything, select all the text boxes and click “attach” (bottom right) to make it one.
  6. Select both the text and the tag and then click “flatten” (bottom right). This will unify the text and tag, making it one item. It is now a print and cut item, meaning you will print it on your printer and then have your Cricut cut it out.
  7. When you select “Make It” (top right), you will be asked to print it out on your printer first. Then you’ll put it into your Cricut to cut.

I chose to print mine on plain white 110 lb cardstock. The cut setting I use is Poster Board.

Use a pretty ribbon to attach it to your container.

What a nice little gift this makes! I’m giving these to my busy mom friends – I hope they’ll appreciate a nice and quick breakfast helper. If you want, add some maple syrup or a package of chocolate chips and maybe a spatula to go with this. Now you can easily make a tag with your Cricut to go with your homemade gifts.

I made a bunch more using the 34 oz Ikea Korken Jar with lid. I batch made 2 of these jars. I did, however, make an extra batch just to top up everything as I wanted them to be full.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut out some adhesive vinyl to add a little saying to the jar as well.
