Essential Oils to Take When Travelling
Looking to find out what the best essential oils to take when travelling? I’ll give you some suggestions here.
As the world slowly begins to open up, so does the opportunity to travel.
We are starting slowly with going back to camp. My kids grew up as campers attending this camp while I volunteered and now that they are older, they are going back to volunteer as well. Summer camp was a wonderful experience for my kids and I am so proud that they want to give back by going back to serve. Summer just isn’t summer if it doesn’t include camp.
It’s been 2 years since we’ve been and a lot has changed. During that time I have gotten into essential oils as a natural way to use in my home, as well as for natural health benefits.
So now we’re going to camp – it’s only for a weekend and so I am faced with what oils to bring with me.
I wanted to make it easy – so technically, I’m not bringing any oils. Instead, I’m bringing blends in rollers. Rollers are easy to pack and easy to apply. I didn’t want to fuss with bringing a carrier oil. I wanted it to be simple. Besides, we were only going for a few days and I wanted to pack light. Want more details on rollers? Read my post on Essential Oil Rollers here.
Now obviously there is no one, correct answer. This is what worked for me. Use this as a guideline or a basis for what would work for you. What works for me may not necessarily work for you.
Keep in mind that we are going to a camp. We stay in actual cabins (we’re not tenting) and so the choices may be different if we were staying in a hotel, for instance. Also, consider your destination. A beach vacation might have different needs compared to a ski vacation.
Essential Oils to Take When Travelling
Here is what I packed and took with me. It would’ve been easy to go overboard and take a bunch of stuff, but as mentioned, I wanted to keep it simple.
I’ve selected ready-made blends that you can buy immediately from doTerra. You can make your own rollers as well.
- On Guard Misting Spray – since we’re not completely out of the woods with Covid, it is prudent to take some sort of sanitizing spray. Use this as a hand sanitizer or use it as a spray sanitizer for your accommodations.
- Terra Shield Spray – since we are at a camp and outdoors a lot, this is a must have. Mosquitos love me and so I really need to have this spray. This spray is a great, all-natural bug repellant.
- Frankinsense Touch – frankinsense is a great, all-purpose essential oil. It is great on blemishes and cuts. This is a good one to have on you at all times when ever you need a bit of first aid. The roller form makes it easy to apply.
- Adaptiv Roller – we all need a calming blend. This is great throughout the day while travelling, as well as great for helping you sleep. You could also make your own calming blend and bring it with you as well.
Now, these are just basic blends for all-purpose travel. This does not include some other blends that I would not leave home without. These include:
- my facial serum – a blend of yarrow pom, blue tansy, lavender and other oils with squalene oil.
- clary calm – an essential blend for mature women to deal with aging and hormone changes.
If I had room in my luggage I would consider the following:
- healing roller – this is great for skin imperfections and minor cuts and bruises. It’s a toss up between this and the frankincense roller
- sleep roller – this is mainly out of habit as I use this every night. The Adaptiv is similar, but it’s not quite the same. I think of Adaptiv as more of a day time thing while my sleep roller is part of my night routine.
- peppermint roller – this essential oil is great for when you need a pick me up. It’s cooling if you are dealing with hot weather and it helps combat the itchiness of bug bites.
Recipes for these blends are included in my post, Essential Oil Roller Recipes to Get You Started.
Here are some of my favourite roller blends.
The easiest way to travel with essential oil rollers? Why it’s in the little pouches that I sewed. I made them for either 3 or 4 rollers. I’m actually going to take 2 different pouches – one is for the rollers that stay in my room while the other is for when I’m out and about and want to have on me all the time.
For complete sewing instructions, check out my posts on the 3 roller pouch here and the 4 roller pouch here.
Note that the sprays (On Guard and Terra Shield) do not fit in this pouch. This pouch is intended for rollers only.
