How to Put Adhesive Vinyl on a Glass Ornament
Here we are at Day 6 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting! Today is another quick and easy project – perfect for that last-minute gift or craft. All it is is how to put adhesive vinyl on a glass ornament.
Glass ornaments come in a variety of colours. Previously I’ve glittered clear ornaments, but that takes time. I told you this was going to be quick and easy.
Supplies Needed
things you need
- Glass Ornaments – these come in a variety of colours and sizes, from a variety of places
- Adhesive vinyl
- Cricut Maker or similar cutting machine
- Transfer Tape – not too sticky! Something very low tack. If you haven’t got any, use your regular transfer tape and make it less tacky/sticky by repeatedly sticking it to your clothes. Trust me, you don’t want it too sticky – depending on the quality of your ornament, transfer tape that is too sticky could actually remove the colour!
Putting adhesive vinyl on a glass ornament is pretty much like how you would put adhesive vinyl on any other item.

Some Helpful Advice for Putting Vinyl on a Glass Ornament
Here are a few tips to make your life easier when putting vinyl on a glass ornament.
TIPS FOR PUTTING VINYL ON A GLASS ORNAMENT
- As you are putting vinyl on a curved surface, make your graphic smaller than you may think or want. The smaller it is the easier it will be to adhere
- Be wary of “enclosed” graphics – things like frames (circles, squares, etc). When it’s “enclosed” like that there is nowhere for the vinyl to go – in other words, nowhere for it to stretch so that it can lay flat. I even have this problem with certain letters like a capital “D”. Again, refer to the previous tip of making your graphic a bit smaller – when your graphic is smaller, the surface that it adheres will have less curve, thereby making it a bit easier to get it to lay flat. This doesn’t always work, but it certainly helps.
- Apply the vinyl from the centre, working your way outwards.
- If you are having a hard time getting it to lay flat, use a hairdryer to give it a quick blast of heat. The heat will make the adhesive vinyl more flexible, thereby making it easier for you to manipulate.
- Don’t press too hard! These are glass remember. If you press too hard, you could break it.

What size font did you use?
It depends on the size of the ornament. When in doubt, err on the side of a little smaller as it will be easier to get it to adhere.
