How to Add Vinyl to a Subway Tile

Sharing is caring!

Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas Crafting. Today I’m going to share a neat sign with you – it’s how to add vinyl to a subway tile.

A few days ago on Day 4, you saw that I added vinyl to an Arabesque tile that I found at the home improvement store. This is a very similar project, using a subway tile.

What is a Subway Tile?

The name, subway tile, comes from the subways of New York City. Down in the subway stations are rectangular tiles. So a subway tile is a rectangular tile that is traditionally 3×6 but they are available in various other sizes.

Subway tiles offer a very classic look. They are versatile and relatively inexpensive. I found a variety of sizes at my local home improvement store.

These tiles make great little signs. You can do so much with them. You can add quotes or sayings or designs.

First, plan your design. You’ll want something long and not too tall.

Then cut your design out of vinyl. I like to use my Cricut Maker for this sort of thing.

Then you just have to apply it to the tile. Make sure your tile is clean. You can give it a wipe with some rubbing alcohol to remove any residues.

These make the cutest little signs. It’s a relatively quick and easy craft that works for any holiday or occasion. Add these to your Christmas displays or even affix one to a wreath. There are just so many possibilities.
