My Star Wars Amigurumi | Pattern Round-Up
As the launch of Rogue 1 occurs, I feel the need to do a review of one of my favourite projects to date – my Star Wars Amigurumi Collection.

As the mother of 3 boys, I know all about Star Wars. There are a number of crochet amigurjmi patterns out there. Here is a review of a number of patterns that I have made.
So when I saw the Lucy Collins Kit, Star Wars Crochet, I knew I had to get it. There was just no option! Lucy Collin is an amazing Ami Crochet designer. You can see her blog here.
Star Wars Amigurumi Pattern Review
The patterns are all reasonably well written. She uses a base pattern for the body and has good details to give all of the characters their signature looks.
As many have commented, the included hook and yarn are not the best so I went with my usual yarns – Impeccable and Vanna’s Choice. Between those two brands of yarn, it was pretty much easy to find all the appropriate colours. Quite often, one of my sons would accompany me to the local Michaels so that just the right shade was picked. So with my trusty 3.5mm hook in hand, I set out to make the complete set.
The kit contains patterns to make the following: Yoda, Stormtrooper, C-3PO, Princess Leia, Wicket the Ewok, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt. My kids really loved them all and enjoyed seeing my progress as I worked through this book.
One of my sons really loves Ewoks and actually researched different coloured Ewoks so that I could make a whole team of Ewoks! Some Ewoks have different coloured hair/fur and different coloured hoods. I never cared much for Jabba the Hutt, but even he is so cute!
As mentioned, there are base patterns, and once you get used to making a few bodies, it goes quite quickly. As with most projects, the first ones weren’t perfect – I tend to overstuff my ami and quickly learned to not stuff them as much so that their heads didn’t look so ridiculously big.

Other Star Wars Amigurumi Patterns by Lucy Collins
Once I finished the book, I couldn’t just stop there. After going through her blog, I found free patterns for Salcious Crumb. In her Etsy shop, I purchased some stand-alone patterns for Admiral Akbar, X-Wing Pilot Luke, Obi Wan Kenobe, Jawa, and Slave Leia.
I noticed on her blog that she had also made a Tattoine Luke, but never published the pattern. After writing to her stating that I had made all of her patterns and wanted this version of Luke, she was kind enough to give me the pattern – it is based on the Luke in the kit, but with some modifications. These patterns are no longer available as they will be made available in her second kit – Star Wars: Even More Crochet.
This kit will include the above, as well as characters from The Force Awakens, including BB-8, Poe, Finn, Nien Numb and Rey. Also new will be Greedo, Lando Kalrissian, and the Cantina Band. I can’t wait until March 2017 when this kit is released!
Edited to add: Here’s my review of Star Wars Even More Part 1 and Part 2.
BB-8 Amigurumi Pattern
Then when the Force Awakens came out, my kids had to have a BB-8. No Star Wars crochet amigurumi set would be complete without BB-8!
At first, there were limited patterns available, but I found one, that according to my kids, looked really good. The designer was Ahooka and her pattern can be found here on Etsy. I can’t tell you how popular BB-8 is. I have made so many as gifts for friends. He’s so cute. He’s also quite easy to make as essentially it is just a ball with some appliques on it, as well as a head.
Max Kanata Amigurumi Pattern
Ahooka also designed a Maz Kanata which is very well done. The attention to detail that she has is quite remarkable. Upon delving into Ahooka’s blog, found here, I found that she had a section called “Pimp Your Patterns”, in which she reviews Lucy Collin’s Star Wars Crochet Kit and adds her own modifications.
The Death Star and AT-AT Crochet Patterns
But no Star Wars crochet amigurumi collection is complete without the Death Star. While I was at it, my kids wanted an AT-AT as well. A quick search on Ravelry came up with two free patterns. The Death Star Pattern by Patricia Castillo is a fairly, easy free pattern found here. Essentially the Death Star is a big ball (which took a while to crochet – this is one of those projects you need to keep counting your stitches so best to do it undisturbed) with a superlaser applique and a bunch of embroidered lines.
This is quite big – about 10 inches in diameter and boy, did it use a lot of stuffing! Thank goodness for those 50% off coupons at Michaels – otherwise, this would have been quite pricey to make. My kids play with this all the time – apparently, it’s good to use to practice volleyball in the house! The AT-AT is quite cute. It reminds me of a lanky dog. This is a paid pattern found on Ravelry by Ana Yogui that you can find by clicking here. This was a relatively easy pattern as well, however, there are lots of little parts that require some assembly.
I really like these patterns but am having a difficult time getting the faces right. Stitch count works but when changing colours the face is always disfigured. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Hi. Is there a particular character in which this is happening. Mine were odd looking if I overstuffed the head – it stretched it out of proportions. I tend to overstuff. In fact I’m working on a blog post for ami tips & tricks. Otherwise, let me know which character so I can revisit the pattern and give you specific feedback.
Wow, amazing – those are too, too cute!
These are some of my favourites!
How do I get the patterns for star wars guys , r hanks
