Death Star Christmas Ornament
Last Friday, my kids and I went to go see Rogue 1 to celebrate the last day of school. The story of Rogue 1 centres around the Death Star, so when I saw this Death Star Christmas tree ornament, I knew I had to make it.
Our family are big Star Wars fans. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we strongly recommend it – it was really good. One of my sons describes it as Episode 3.9 in the Star Wars series – basically, it’s what happens just before Episode IV – A New Hope. Episode IV, as you may or may not know, is the very first Star Wars movie to ever come out.
Now I’ve made the Death Star, as featured in my own Star Wars post found here. But that Death Star is more like the size of a basketball. This, however, is a little Christmas tree ornament.
Death Star Crochet Ornament Pattern
The pattern is by 5 Little Monsters (the same designer who did the stockings I profiled yesterday – you can find that here) and is published not on her blog, but instead, here.
The pattern is easy to follow. Since it is a mini Death Star, it’s like an amigurumi item. Essentially, it is two halves of a sphere that is sewn together. The larger one I made was constructed in one big sphere. The superlaser is just a small circle applique and the lines are similarly embroidered. To make the lines stand out more, I embroidered using a double strand of yarn – I found that for both the large and this smaller Death Star, using a single strand did not seem to stand out very well.
The larger one took me quite some time to make as the sphere is quite large and required a lot of counting. This tree ornament, however, is small and quick to make up. I know that cute isn’t typically a word to describe the Death Star, but I must say that it turned out really cute!
This ornament is a must-have for any Star Wars fan, including my family.

Now that I’ve made some ornaments, I must get on to finishing a few Christmas presents – I only have a few days left! Next week, my blog posts will feature some of the things I made this year. From my family to yours – we wish you the joy and the hope that this holiday season brings.
