Crochet Ornament Stocking | Pattern Review
It’s just 5 days until Christmas! Today I’m reviewing a crochet ornament stocking.
Our Christmas tree is mainly covered in decorations that my boys have made throughout the years, so there is definitely a homemade quality to it. I’ve bought a few ornaments, but the homemade ones are what really make the tree.

Crochet Ornament Stocking Pattern
I came across the pattern to this little stocking from the 5 Little Monsters Blog found here. Originally, these stockings were made for an advent calendar, but they also work for tree decorations.
This was my first time making a sock shape. There’s something about socks that always seems daunting to me. I have bought a sock pattern which I plan on working on in the new year, so this seemed like a good trial run. Lucky for me, the pattern was quite easy to follow. Working a heel is a little tricky and I must admit, the first time took me a couple of tries. But now that I’ve done it, I am more confident and can’t wait to make crochet socks.
I just used whatever worsted weight yarn I had on hand, as well as a 5 mm hook – so the materials were readily available to me and they are materials that are easy to work with. Because of the size, these work up quite quickly so it’s easy to do a few in a variety of colours. The blog also gives directions on how to do variations, like stripes and spots. I just opted for the traditional look with the toe, heel and top band in a contrasting colour.
I just added some jute twine to the top of the stocking so that they can be hung on a tree.
What’s really nice about the size of this stocking is that it holds gift cards and folded gift certificates as well. Gift cards are an easy gift – putting them inside of these cute stockings makes it that much nicer.
