C2C Bear Baby Blanket | Crochet Pattern Review
For Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas Projects, I’m going to highlight my work on a C2C bear baby blanket. A couple of baby boys were born just prior to Christmas and I got two requests for the same baby blanket.
The C2C Bear Baby Blanket
The first request was from my mother for a friend of hers who just got a new grandson. My mother wanted it to be green but let me choose the pattern or design. I chose the Repeat Crafter Me’s C2C bear blanket. You can find the graph and information here on the blog. I had seen this graph before and was curious about using Bernat blanket yarn, so I was happy to have a chance to try this pattern.
Now I’ve done corner to corner (or C2C) before – I made the big Westie blanket which you can see by clicking here. What was different about this graph and what piqued my interest, was that I had never used blanket yarn before.
The website provided a graph – it wasn’t a big graph since the thick yarn didn’t require too many boxes. However, my experience has been where I find reading a graph challenging to follow along. I know many people do it, but I personally prefer working with word charts, so I had to write everything out. If you are wondering how to do that, check out my YouTube video.

My Thoughts on Bernat Blanket Yarn
The Bernat blanket yarn is quite thick. It has a chenille feel to it. It is wonderfully soft and cozy. The yarn seems a bit pricey, even on sale, however, they are quite large skeins. I basically made it exactly like the example on the blog. The thick yarn worked up quickly, but I did find it a bit hard on my wrist.
The end result was interesting. It was certainly thick and squishy, but it seemed almost like a rug. It wasn’t the typical baby blanket that I was used to. To me, it seemed like a nice blanket that you would put on the floor and let the baby lay on – as opposed to being a blanket that you would cover a baby with while sleeping or in a stroller

Worsted Weight Yarn Version of the C2C Bear Baby Blanket
After I had completed this blanket, I posted it on my Instagram and immediately I got a request for another one from a family friend who just got a new nephew. She wanted it exactly as what I had made, colour-wise, but wanted regular, worsted weight yarn so that it was more like a traditional blanket. However, the graph was too small for that – if I had made it using the same graph but the lighter weight yarn, it would have turned out tiny.
So in order to enlarge it, I had to turn each of the original squares into 4 squares. So I enlarged it on a photocopier and with a ruler, divided each box into 4. The resulting blanket is a bit bigger than the original, but still a nice baby size. I found comparable colours in Red Heart Soft yarn, so this baby blanket is also soft and cuddly.
Interestingly, I will say that even by looking at the photos, you can see that the Bernat Blanket version lays nicely and did not require blocking. The worsted weight version, however, is more drapey and more challenging to make a perfect rectangle. You can see from my photo that I gave up trying to make it perfect. So which version do you prefer?
