So next on my wish list was to crochet Miffy and friends. I tried a couple of crochet Miffy patterns, but I also wanted to make her friends, Melanie and Boris Bear, as well.
I will share my preferred pattern, along with the modifications I made, so you can make your own crochet Miffy and friends.
If you’ve never tried crochet amigurumi before, don’t worry – I’ve got you covered.
My 5 Helpful Amigurumi Tips for Crocheters
Who is Miffy?
Miffy is a little bunny character from the Netherlands. Think of her as the Dutch Hello Kitty.
She is a white rabbit with a very simple face.

Crochet Miffy and Friends Pattern #1
The first free crochet Miffy pattern I found was from the Chubbies By Ash blog.
This free crochet Miffy pattern includes instructions on how to crochet Miffy, as well as some overalls and accessories – including headphones and a tomato hat. This pattern is covered by an extensive YouTube video that goes through the entire pattern.
I made this pattern using thin, baby yarn, as that is the white yarn that I had in my stash. I also used a 2.5 mm crochet hook. The result was a cute, good sized miffy. I also made the pink overalls, that was also a part of the pattern.
This pattern was somewhat easy to follow. However, some of the steps are missing from the written instructions. Thankfully, each section has a link that takes you directly to the part in the YouTube video where that section is being made. I had to refer to the YouTube video a couple of times.
This pattern has you crochet most body parts separately. The head and body are crocheted in one piece. After you have completed the body, the arms, feet and ears are sewn on.
I used black yarn to embroider the face. As per usual, I like to embroider the face prior to stuffing so that I can hide the ends on the inside and tie them in a knot.

Crochet Miffy and Friends Pattern #2
I happened upon this crochet Miffy pattern while doing a Google Search. Interestingly, this pattern was posted on Instagram by Knit Joa, so there is no website where you can find this pattern. I really liked the look of this pattern, so I saved it on my Instagram page.
The pattern is part of an Instagram post. I personally find it hard to read all the details off my phone, and so I had to open up Instagram on my desktop computer so that I could follow the pattern.
This pattern is easy to follow and quite quick to make. It includes crochet patterns for a dress and overalls.
My hand got tired of the thin yarn from the first crochet Miffy, and so I opted for thicker yarn. For this crochet Miffy, I used a bulky, category 5 yarn. I typically crochet my amigurumi using category 4 (worsted weight) yarn, but I am all out of white yarn in that weight, and I thought it better to go through my stash, rather than add to it. I used a slightly smaller crochet hook – 4.0 mm to make sure it didn’t end up too big. It’s definitely bigger than the first crochet Miffy, but not too large. She’s still small and cute.
This pattern starts at the top with the ears, and you crochet the entire body as one. The arms are crocheted separately and sewn on. Again, I embroidered the face prior to stuffing. This is my preferred method. I used black yarn to embroider the face. It’s very easy – just two eyes and an ‘X’ for the mouth.
I did not stuff the arms at all, despite the pattern suggesting to lightly stuff. I find that they don’t need any stuffing at all and hang nicely from the body.
This crochet pattern includes instructions for both a dress and overalls. They are so cute! The dress and overalls are made such that you can change outfits on Miffy. The first pattern has the overalls sewn on. So I prefer this pattern more.
My first inclination was to crochet a pretty purple dress for Miffy, as purple is my favourite colour. I liked the slip stitch detail that is included in the pattern and chose to use a contrasting purple for it. Of course, after I made the purple dress, I googled what colours Miffy wear and it said that Miffy mainly wears primary colours (red and blue) and orange. It also said that Miffy rarely wears pastels or purple…. Oh well. Anyway, I ended up making a blue dress and some red overalls.
For the clothing, I used category 4, worsted-weight yarn and a 4.0 mm crochet hook. I think you’re supposed to do the same weight as the body so that the clothing fits, but I didn’t have any bulky weight yarn in the colours I used. Thankfully, it worked out okay, and the clothing fits.

Crochet Miffy and Friends – Melanie
Melanie is Miffy’s friend. She is a brown rabbit from Africa who was Miffy’s pen pal. She is considered to be one of Miffy’s best friends.
Melanie looks pretty much like Miffy, but is brown. So simply use the same crochet pattern, but use brown yarn.
Melanie typically wears an orange dress, so that’s what I made.

Crochet Miffy and Friends – Boris Bear.
Boris Bear is another of Miffy’s friends. He is a brown bear and is known for building things.
I couldn’t find a separate pattern for Boris Bear, so I modified the Miffy Pattern. The body shape is the same, except for the ears. Since I wasn’t going to make the rabbit ears, I had to modify the beginning of the pattern. I also needed to come up with a pattern for the ears of Boris Bear.
HOW I MODIFIED KNIT JOA’S PATTERN TO MAKE BORIS BEAR
- R1 – in a magic ring, ch 1 and 6 sc, slst to join. (6)
- R2 – ch 1, inc all around, slst to join (12)
- R3 – ch 1, (sc, inc) – repeat all around, slst to join (18)
- Now continue on with the rest of the pattern for Miffy, starting at R8.
So this modification makes a plain head (no rabbit ears), and then I needed to make ears for Boris Bear and sew them on.
HOW to crochet Boris bear’s ears
- R1 – in a magic ring, ch 1 and 5 sc, slst to join. (5)
- R2 – ch 1, inc all around, slst to join (10)
- R3 – ch 1, (sc, inc) – repeat all around, slst to join (15)
- R4 & R5 – ch 1, sc all around, slst to join (15)
- Cut yarn, leaving enough to sew the ear on to the head.
- Stuff and sew on to the head.
Don’t forget to make the arms for Boris Bear. You can use the same Miffy pattern for that.
The clothing patterns also work for Boris Bear. Boris Bear is often seen wearing either a shirt or overalls. The colours used are typically red, yellow or orange. I used the crochet dress pattern, but made it a little shorter.

Note: To make Boris Bear’s shirt, follow the crochet pattern for Miffy’s dress, but only go up to R9.
Don’t forget to do the top stitching detail as noted in the pattern.

Now don’t these 3 look cute?
