My Yarn Project Workbook was something that I had thought about and had wanted to do for a very long time. It finally came to fruition just a couple of weeks ago. If you are a knitter or crocheter, you’re going to want to check it out.

To celebrate the release of my Sewing Project Workbook, for a limited time until the end of the month, you can get it for 25% off. No coupon code is needed. The discount is automatically applied and good until April 30, 2022.

While in the process of writing and editing the Yarn Project Workbook, I began to see how many of the systems I was setting up would easily transfer to the world of sewing. So then the Sewing Project Workbook came to be.

As a teacher, I know how important it is to have a framework to help get you started. This applies to planning and organizing. This workbook is not a specific system that you must follow, but rather a framework to help you get started to provide a bit of guidance.

The Sewing Project Workbook

The Sewing Project Workbook is a series of worksheets designed to help sewers organize, plan and celebrate their work.

Are you overwhelmed by your fabric stash?
Have you gotten a pattern that you intended to make, but forgot?
Do you wonder if you have the right-sized zipper for a project that you are doing?
Have you ever bought a notion, only to discover you already had it?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Sewing Project Workbook is for you.

What’s In the Sewing Project Workbook?

This 23 page PDF document contains sheets to inventory your sewing supplies, such as your fabric, notions and trims. It also includes a handy wishlist for things you’d like to have. It also contains a worksheet for you to inventory all your patterns.

My Sewing Project Workbook will also help you plan your next sewing project. It includes a sheet for you to record all your measurements. This is especially handy when sewing for others. You can also write down all the details of your project, including what options you are going to make, as well as a place to note any special notions you may need.

As well, I feel it is important to celebrate and reflect upon after completing a project. How was the fit? Would you make it again exactly or would you change some things?

You can find all of this in one, cohesive workbook. There are clearly organized pages that are detailed, yet not overwhelming.

How to Use the Sewing Project Workbook

I wanted to design something that not only looked good but was usable and practical as well. I recall a friend of mine purchasing a yarn project book but was too afraid to write in it for fear of messing it up.

Like most crafts, I find sewing very fluid. Fabric gets bought and then used up. Notions get bought and then used up. Patterns get bought and either sit there waiting to be used or get sewn up right away.

With my printable PDF workbook, you can update and modify and change as you see fit. Print out another page if you want to start over again because there are so many changes.

Perhaps you want multiple pages of the inventory sheet to help you organize your fabric by fibre. The flexibility of my workbook lets you tweak the system into something that works for you. It’s detailed, yet open to your own way of organizing.

Maybe you won’t use all the pages, but it’s good to have everything in one place. Keep all your printouts in a binder close to your sewing machine.

Why Did I Write the Sewing Project Workbook?

I was beginning to get overwhelmed by all the fabric and all the things I needed to do. I was forgetting why I got certain fabrics and what I was planning on making.

I needed a system to help me organize and keep track of everything. Now what works for me, may not necessarily work for you. For that reason, I tried to keep the worksheets general, yet detailed enough for them to work for anyone.

I will admit that I tried writing things down. I went and got a couple of cute notebooks from the dollar store, but I wasn’t consistent with what I wrote in them. Ideally, I should have all my ideas together in one section and so on. Instead, I had information all over the place. It was not organized and certainly not helpful.

Highlights of the Sewing Project Workbook

There are 3 main sections of the Sewing Project Workbook.

The first section will help you inventory all your fabric, trims, notions and patterns. Like most avid sewers, you probably have more than you realize. I have sheets to help you note down everything you have.

To go with the inventory sheets, there are wishlists. I almost always see beautiful fabric, cool notions, or a lovely pattern that I’d love to try. It’s good to keep a list and revisit it from time to time to update it or because you want to treat yourself!

The next section of the workbook is all about planning. When sewing garments, you always need to have measurements. I have a handy sheet for that. It’s also good to write down details like the size and pattern options you intend to do. Do you need any special notions? Will you be grading or blending sizes? Perhaps you want to mash a few patterns together to create that perfect dress. Do you have a dream project? Keeping track of all these things by writing them down will not only help you organize your thoughts but also help you keep track of all the projects you have on the go.

Finally, this workbook also serves as a record of your work. You also have the opportunity to reflect upon the project. How did it fit? Would you do anything different the next time? It’s always good to pause and take a moment after a project to reflect on how it went. It’s also good to celebrate achievements.
