I’m making a greater effort to make and send cards. I think a personal note goes a long way and it’s even better in a homemade card.
Since becoming a Stampin Up Demonstrator, I am pleased to see how they coordinate all of their supplies. Stampin Up not only carries card stock to be used as card bases but also Designer Paper Series (DSPs) in a variety of patterns that also coordinate with ink pads. You really can’t go wrong with Stampin Up as all the coordination has been done for you.
This is an easy Christmas card that uses a simple card base, as well as some holiday DSP. So if you’re new to card making, this is a great way to get started.
Supplies Needed
The following can all be purchased through Stampin Up. Please feel free to message me if you would like to make any purchases. As you can see, it doesn’t take much to make an easy Christmas Card with patterned paper.
- card stock for the card
- coordinating card stock to layer
- holiday themed Designer Paper Series
- paper cutter
- scoring tool
- glue
The specific Stampin Up items will be listed at the end of this post.
How to Make an Easy Christmas Card with Patterned Paper
The nice thing about using patterned paper is that you don’t need to go crazy with die cuts and such as the paper is already patterned and looks nice.
The trick is to simply layer the paper. This card consists of 3 layers – the card base, a base layer and a patterned layer.
Card Base
Simply cut an 8.5 x 11 piece of card stock in half so that you have 2 pieces, each measuring 8.5 x 5.5. Each will make a card.
The nice thing about this project is that you can easily make 2 cards.
Layering Piece
This is a piece of solid card stock that goes in between the patterned paper and the card base. It acts as a frame for the patterned paper and adds dimension to the card.
Cut a piece of coordinating card stock measuring 5.25 x 4.
Patterned Paper
Cut your patterned paper 5 x 3.75. If it is directional, plan accordingly.
Now the easy way to do this is to simply glue one on top of the other to make a card. Then You will notice that a small border of the cardstock will show, framing the patterned paper nicely. You could finish right here like that and it would be a nice card. That was an easy Christmas card with patterned paper.
Some Options
Here are a couple of ways to step it up a bit and make your Christmas card a bit fancier.
If you decide to add any of these options, leave the gluing of all the layers until the very end. You want to do these options before assembling the card.
Add a sentiment
Now you will likely want to add a sentiment or a message. Using one of the cardstock colours, cut a small banner. You can cut a simple rectangle or use a die-cut.
Then you can handwrite or stamp your message.
Glue this onto the card. If you want to step it up a bit, use a dimensional to make it pop. A dimension is a double-sided foam piece that pops your sentiment up a bit. It adds a nice touch.
Add a ribbon or string
You can add a bow or simply wind some ribbon around. You can wind the ribbon around the patterned paper or glue the patterned paper to the layering cardstock and then wind it around that. Be sure to secure it in the back with some glue.
I like the ribbon to go under the sentiment. I think it adds a nice touch.
Since the patterned paper is so lovely, a simple card like this really features it. This was quite an easy card; you could make quite a few in no time.
There are just so many possibilities with the Designer Paper Series from Stampin up. I love how all of their products coordinate so it makes this such an easy card to make and I think it looks great!
