It’s spring break for us here on the west coast. It’s been a year since we’ve been under restrictions. Last summer I put a greater effort into gardening. I’m not much of a gardener and so you would not see anything extraordinary in our yard.
I’ve even made an effort to take better care of my houseplants. I downloaded an app that helps remind me to water them and so far, so good!
I thought I would have some fun with my Cricut and makes some custom plant markers. Okay, so I will admit that I do like things orderly and labelled. In the past year since being at home, I’ve reorganized all the closets and underneath every sink, as well as our pantry. Everything is nicely labelled and I must say that it makes everything easier to find.
So why stop there? Why not continue on with the plants?
Supplies Needed to Make Custom Plant Markers
This is a relatively easy Cricut project that involves plant markers and some adhesive vinyl.
- Circut cutting machine. I use a Circut Maker.
- Adhesive vinyl. I use Avery vinyl. There are several other brands as well.
- Plant markers. You can find these online as well as in gardening stores and the dollar store. I got some bamboo ones from AliExpress and some clip on ones with a chalkboard from the dollar store.
How to Make Custom Plant Markers
This is a great project to use up little scraps of your vinyl. It doesn’t take much to label these markers as they tend not to be too big.
- Pick a font that you like to make your labels.
- Cut your labels on adhesive vinyl with your Cricut using the appropriate setting.
- Apply the adhesive vinyl to the plant markers.

Now since I’m not much of a gardener, my plant markers aren’t very serious. Be all means, label them however you see fit – actual plant names or even the Latin names.
