Paper Pumpkin is a subscription box by Stampin’ Up. It includes all the necessary supplies to make cards, gift packaging or home decor. Everything is in the box. The subscription box is offered monthly, however, there is no commitment to do a certain time frame. You could simply get one if you wanted.

Note that I paid for this subscription box myself. It was not gifted to me. I have a friend that is a Stampin’ Up demonstrator and I got it through her. I’ve always wanted to up to my card-making game and so I thought I would try it out.

What I really like about this subscription service is that they give a sneak peek, the month before. When it comes to paying money for subscription boxes, I’m not too keen on surprises. It’s okay when it’s something that I really like, but if it’s not I’ll be the first to tell you! With Paper Pumpkin, they post a shot of what is coming up the next month so you can decide if you want it or not.

My February Paper Pumpkin Box

I saw the preview for this box in January and it looked like something I would like. The theme is sympathy and thinking of you. It had the colours that I like and it was floral. I figure this would also be great for birthdays, thank you’s, or “just because” cards for my friends.

My kit contained:

  • stamp set
  • green stamp pad “mossy meadow”
  • 3 different card bases (3 each for a total of 9)
  • 3 different lined envelopes (3 each for a total of 9)
  • 3 x thinking of you stickers (in 3 languages: French, English, and German)
  • die-cut labels
  • 3 x printed die cuts of flowers and a border
  • 3 x gold foil die cuts
  • 3 x vellum sheets with gold foil
  • adhesive sequins
  • adhesive dots (the white comes off and it’s clear)
  • coordinating linen thread
  • hexagonal glue dots (called dimensionals)

That’s quite a bit of stuff. It is all nicely coordinated. There are photos of 3 different cards that you can make.

They offer coordinating colours from Stamping Up, in the event you want to change it up a bit – for instance, the stamp colours.

Black and white instructions are included on how to make the 3 cards as shown as suggested. There is also the Paper Pumpkin YouTube channel which also shows you how to make this project.

My Projects

It was easy to change the message to suit my needs. I love how they turned out.

My Thoughts on the Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

Overall, I quite like the Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box. They make it easy. Everything you need is included. These are beyond a regular card as it includes extras like die cuts, thread and sequins.

The cards in this box are easy. You literally just have to assemble.

What I also like is the versatility. With this as the foundation, you can easily change the message to Happy Birthday or Thank You and it would work well.

I will admit that my card-making is somewhat lacking. In terms of supplies, I have lots of plain, blank cards and envelopes and a lot of paper and cardstock. I have a few stamps and die cuts, but not that many. My favourite part of this subscription box is the fancy stuff – the gold foil die cut doily pieces and the vellum. Those are extra little touches that I don’t have. It’s those extra little touches that make these cards truly beautiful.

The Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box gives a good foundation or basis for card making. Once you have the supplies it’s easy to swap things in and out and make cards for any occasion.

The cost is quite reasonable. For $30CAD you are able to make 9 really nice cards. That works out to $3.33 a card. Really nice greeting cards are expensive nowadays and they aren’t half as nice as these cards. So I consider it to be quite good value.

That said, would I want a box every month? Probably not. I don’t need that many cards. I don’t give out that many cards – although I should. Perhaps now I will. Not every project appeals to me and so I like the flexibility that I can order if I want.

Looking at previous months, I saw some really nice Christmas cards and so I will likely get a box closer to Christmas when they come out. I’d also be curious for some cards that would be good for my sons for their birthdays and such. Knowing what I want ahead of time and seeing the sneak peeks will help me decide when I want to get a box.

As mentioned, this was not a sponsored post, nor was this subscription box gifted to me. I just wanted to try it and so the opinions here are entirely my own.

I have since become a Stampin Up Demonstrator. If you are interested in Paper Pumpkin, be sure to use my link here.
