Two years ago, I used the technique of bonded fabric to make this banner.
Using the same technique, we’re going to make a cute star, ornament.
Supplies Needed
The great thing about this project is that it is great for using up your scraps of fabrics.
- Base fabric: to make things easier, I chose a felt which doesn’t fray
- Main fabric: since this is for Christmas, I chose a Christmas fabric
- heat and bond
- Cricut Maker. The Maker cuts both regular fabric, as well as bonded fabric
- fabric mat for the Cricut
- iron or heat press, like the Cricut Easy Press
- twine or yarn for hanging
- glue gun to attach the hanger

Feel free to resize the stars to your liking. Be sure to select both when resizing so that you keep the proportions the same.
Following the instructions for the Heat and Bond, apply it to the back of the main fabric. Make it a little bigger than the finished product.
Cut both fabrics – the base and the main fabric which now has Heat and Bond on it using the Cricut Maker. Be sure to use the correct settings when cutting your fabrics. I used the rotary cutter for both. For the felt fabric, I used the felt setting and then I used the bonded fabric setting for my main fabric.
Don’t forget to use the pink mat which is intended for fabric. When cutting the main fabric, put the bonded side down first so that it is stuck to the mat.
You will end up with 2 stars – one slightly smaller than the other.
Once you have both pieces cut, layer the bonded fabric on top of the felt fabric and use heat to adhere the 2 together.
Cut a small piece of twine or yarn and using a glue gun, glue it to the back of the star so that it can be hung.
Optional – glue a little button in the centre.
There you have it. That was an easy project using bonded fabric. Now you can make all sorts of shapes . You could even embellish or personalize using heat transfer vinyl. There are just so many possibilities.
Be sure to come back tomorrow where I will share another Christmas Crafting Project project.
