How to Make an Easy, Cardstock Reindeer Garland
Welcome to Day 4 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting. Today we are going to make an easy, cardstock reindeer garland using our Cricut.
This is an adorable cardstock reindeer garland that features Santa’s sleigh and his reindeer. In order to get the images, I used Clip Art Library which is a free site of clipart that can be used in your Cricut projects, as long as they are for personal use.
Supplies needed to Make a Cardstock Reindeer Garland
- Get the free reindeer clip art silhouette here.
- Get the free sleigh clip art silhouette here.
- Brown and red cardstock
- Twine or ribbon – basically something to hang the garland.
- Glue gun
- Optional: red bead for Rudolph’s nose. Are you like me and have those red berry garlands? There’s always a bead that falls off that I save because I figure it could be used for something. If you don’t have a red bead, a red pom-pom would be cute too!
How to Get the Images Uploaded to Cricut Design Space
- Right-click each image and save them. Be sure to note where they are saved.
- In Cricut’s Design Space, open up a new project.
- Use the Upload option on the left-hand side. Find the location of the reindeer and click Open
- Choose Simple image type.
- Select the Magic Wand to erase the background. It should look like a checkerboard (that means there is NO background – it’s transparent).
- Select the crop tool to select only the reindeer (and therefore cut off the website address on the bottom).
- Save it as a cut image.
- Repeat the process for the sleigh. The sleigh already has a transparent background and so you will be able to skip that step. You will not need to crop it either.
Once the images are uploaded into Cricut’s Design Space, you can size them accordingly. The sleigh comes out gigantic! Just size it down.
Resize The reindeer and the sleigh to 6 inches wide. This is merely my suggestion. Feel free to make them bigger or smaller to your liking.
You will need at least 8 reindeer. Select the reindeer and under the edit menu, select copy and then paste 7 times for a total of 8 reindeer. If you wish to include Rudolph, do it another time for a total of 9 reindeer.
Now you can make the project. Get the Cricut to cut out all the items on cardstock. I used kraft cardstock from Michaels.

Glue the twine or the yarn to the backs of each of the pieces. Be sure to glue near the top of the pieces – otherwise, they’ll flip over. You may even want to glue in 2 spots to make sure it stays put.
The sleigh has 2 spots that can easily be glued to.
For the reindeer, I glued to the top of the back, as well as the head. Consider the angle that you want the reindeer to have when glueing.
If you are including Rudolph, glue on a red nose.
Look how easy this cardstock reindeer garland was to make! It adds a nice little bit of Christmas cheer to any decor.
