How To Personalize a Starbucks Reusable Cup

Sharing is caring!

Day 10 of my Cricut Christmas Crafting is a practical and easy gift. It seems that everywhere you go nowadays, it’s not uncommon to see someone holding a Starbucks cup. I see that as an opportunity to craft! Here’s how to personalize a Starbucks reusable cup.

In an effort to be better for the environment Starbucks has reusable cups that can be purchased for a nominal price. In return, customers who bring it each time are entitled to a discount. This post is going to show you how to personalize a Starbucks reusable cup. I’ll be using the standard white cup which is available year-round.

With so many of these cups in use, it only makes sense to me that I share this tutorial on how to personalize a Starbucks reusable cup. This way, we can keep everyone’s cup straight! These also make great gifts – either on their own or tuck a Starbucks gift card into it as well.

Prepare the Graphic to Personalize a Starbucks Reusable Cup

The vinyl graphic simply consists of a frame surrounding the Starbucks Logo. The frame can contain a person’s name or phrase.

I made the frame using the shapes feature in Cricut’s Design Space. I’m happy to share 3 templates for you – one is plain (for phrases or general sayings), one contains the word coffee (so just add the name above) and the other contains the word tea (again, just add the name above).

How to Personalize the Graphic

It’s easy to add a name or saying to this graphic. Cricut Design Space recently added a curve function to be used with text – this makes personalization so easy. Prior to that, I literally placed each letter by hand.

Follow these easy steps to personalize a Starbucks reusable cup:

  • Using the Text feature in Cricut Design Space, type out the personalization.
  • Change the font to Arial Black (top far left)
  • Change the font size to 30 (top left)
  • Centre the text with the frame:  position the text so that the letters are within the top of the frame, select both items and in the Align drop-down menu (top left), select Align Horizontally. It should be centred within the coloured frame
  • Select the text and select the curve (centre top) function. Click and drag to the right to curve it downwards.
  • Make sure all of the letters are within the coloured part of the frame. Adjust up or down as necessary. Select both text and frame and align horizontally again to make sure the text is centered.
  • Once you are happy with how it looks, select both and slice (bottom right). This will cut the letters out of the frame.
  • Select the slice results (there will be 2 – the original text and the cut out of the frame) and delete both. You will be left with the frame with the letters cut out.
  • Optional:  change colour to the desired colour. The Starbucks green I use is Avery 700 Forest Green. But it doesn’t have to be green – I love contrasting colours too.

Tips for Applying the Adhesive Vinyl to Personalize a Starbucks Reusable Cup

Here are a few tips that will make your life a bit easier when making these Starbucks Reusable cups.

TIPS

  • remove the lid
  • place your cup between something so that it doesn’t roll around
  • start with the middle – centre the top and the bottom; press down with your fingers
  • turn the cup sideways and apply that side – working from the middle, out
  • turn the cup the other way and apply the other side – again, working from the middle out

Okay, I know it’s not perfect. It overlaps with that Made in America info at the bottom. I tried removing it with acetone – no luck. If you know of a way to remove it, let me know. It personally doesn’t bother me as it is at the bottom.  You’ll see in the pink one – it’s an older cup – it used to be positioned much lower. Recently they moved it up.

    1. There is another cup with a straw – is it that one? If so, I seem to recall that it’s bigger and so you may need to resize the templates to make it work. You could always try it on a piece of paper first before cutting the vinyl.

  1. I have a Explorer 2 and I tried everything to get the name to be a cut out of the circle but it keeps coming up as two separate layers

    1. Be sure to select the name, as well as the ring (so 2 items) and then slice. Slice only works with 2 items. Then delete the sliced bits. Perhaps that’s it?
