Barry Dog Walking Fingerless Gloves | Free Crochet Pattern
Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas. Today I’m going to show you how to crochet some fingerless gloves.
Some of you may remember that I made Barry a scarf a while back. You can see that post here. I got a request to make fingerless gloves to go with the Barry Scarf. It was one of those things – what a great idea – why didn’t I think of that?
As the Barry scarf is made from Loops & Threads Charisma Yarn, I wanted it to match so that is what I had to work with. Charisma is a nice and thick, bulky yarn.
I scoured the internet for a pattern that I could use. I wanted to incorporate the button on Barry’s scarf with the gloves and nothing really seemed to grab me. So it was time to figure out a pattern myself.
As Barry’s scarf has ribbing, it was a given that the fingerless gloves would. That was easy, however as the cuffs would be ribbed and so I know it would match.
Thick yarn like Charisma has pros and cons. The pro is that it works up quickly and it’s easy to whip up something in no time. The con is that its thickness does lend itself well to fancier stitches. I was trying to go all fancy with the stitch work, but to be honest, with the thickness of the yarn, it was lost – so I stuck to regular, basic stitches. Those seemed to show up the best.
I wanted to make sure that the buttons were prominent and showcased – I didn’t want it to look like they were an afterthought. I solved this simply by bordering an area on the glove for the button. Above and below the button would be a row of HDC in the 3rd loop, which creates a nice textural effect and frames the button nicely.
For this project, I used Loops & Threads Charisma yarn and a 5.5mm hook.

Sizing Information for the Fingerless Gloves
You can easily adjust the size of this pattern – simply create a FDC chain at the beginning that wraps around your wrist easily. Keep in mind that the yarn will stretch out a bit, so you will wanted it fitted and not too loose.
The left glove can be made the same – DC into the first 2 stitches, sk3, ch3 and then DC the rest of the way around for the total number of stitches that were in your FDC.
For the right glove, DC all the way around until 5 stitches remain. Then sk3, ch3 and DC in the last 2 stitches.
If you want the thumb hole to be bigger, sk4, ch4 instead. For the left glove, you’ll just keep DC’ing to the end. For the right glove, you will DC all the way around until 6 stitches remain and then sk4, ch4 and DC in the last 2 stitches.
To make the gloves longer, add an extra row or 2 of DCs, either before and/or after the thumb hole – depending on where you would like the length.
