An Easy Way to Get the Weathered Paint Look | Just 2 Steps
Do you love that worn, farmhouse look as much as I do? Here’s an easy way to get the weathered paint look.
With the holidays coming up, I know I’m going to be doing more painting. I personally love that weathered farmhouse look and I want to be able to recreate it in my painting.
I’ve simplified the process to get that weathered paint look in just 2 steps. You don’t need any fancy products and it looks great!
Supplies Needed
- the wood that you want to paint
- paint – this is the base colour; it can be any colour you want
- sandpaper – medium grit
How to Get the Weathered Paint Look
As mentioned, I’ve simplified the process into 2 easy steps.
Step 1
Paint your wood. Just paint it normally with a brush. Use whatever paint you were intending – it does not need to be fancy. It can be acrylic paint, house paint, milk paint or chalk paint.
Step 2
Lightly sand your wood so that you remove some of the paint. Sand the edges in particular as that tends to be the spot where it gets worn first.
You could sand the main part but just do it lightly. The more you sand, the more paint you will remove. The more you remove, the more weathered it will look.
Remember to start off easy. It’s always easier to do a little more, but you can’t really take back if you’ve done too much.
Be sure to wipe it clean after you’ve sanded it. You want to remove all the dust particles before you move on to the next part of your project.
See how easy that was? It was just a matter of removing a bit of paint here and there.
I love this look on things like ornaments. You can apply this technique to so many things.
