How to Make Easy Sew Boot Shapers | Free Sewing Pattern
They say that April showers bring May flowers. There’s certainly truth to that as it is raining here on the West Coast. So that means it’s boot season. Here’s how to make some easy sew boot shapers.
It is no secret that I do love shoes and boots. In fact, this past Christmas, during the after-Christmas sale, I must admit that I acquired my ninth pair of boots. This does not include booties. In fact, this last purchase was my sixth pair of black boots. But in my defence, they are all different! If you take good care of your boots, they will last for years.
What are Boot Shapers?
Boot shapers are inserts that you put into boots so that they don’t flop over. Sure you can buy them, but they’re also easy to make.
Some boots are soft and need something inside of them to keep them up. Otherwise, you could get creases or wrinkles in the material. Also, they take up less space when they are standing up.
Supplies Needed to Make Easy Sew Boot Shapers
- fabric – it doesn’t use very much so check your stash; no one really sees the boot shapers so it doesn’t really matter what the fabric looks like
- fibre fill
- sewing machine and sewing notions (scissors, thread, etc).
It doesn’t take much to make these easy sew boot shapers. This makes this a great evening or weekend project. It’s quick to whip up a few pairs.

Figure out the Size You Need to Make Easy Sew Boot Shapers
- Measure the height of your boots. I have both regular boots and over the knee boots and so there will be different lengths. Add 1 inch for seam allowance.
- Similarly, determine the width of your boot shaper and add 1 inch for seam allowance.
For my boots, I cut 2 pieces of fabric that measured 16 by 7.
I have a lot of fabric in my stash, including a lot of flannel. I love the soft feel of flannel and so I wanted to use that. Since the grain of the fabric is not an issue, you can cut these 2 pieces horizontally. The exception would be if you had fabric that had an obvious direction. I prefer cutting horizontally as it takes less fabric.
How to Make Easy Sew Boot Shapers
- Fold the fabric, right sides together, longways.
- Using a half inch seam allowance, sew down the long length and then along the bottom (one side should be left open)
- Turn right side out using that one open side.
- Stuff the boot shaper with fibre fill. TIP: a takeout chopstick helps stuff it down.
- On the open end, fold in the raw edges and sew closed.
- Repeat for the second boot shaper.
That’s it. All you have to do is pop them into your boots and you have easy
