How to Make an Easy Sew Instant Pot Cover | Free Sewing Pattern
This past Christmas, I jumped on the Instant Pot bandwagon. I know I haven’t used it to its fullest potential yet, but I’ve made a few good things and I’m liking it. So here’s an easy sew Instant Pot cover.

I hesitated on getting an Instant Pot, despite numerous friends raving about it, because I just don’t have that much counter space and this would be yet another thing on my counter. But a deal this past Christmas on Amazon was something that I couldn’t pass up. So I reorganized the kitchen, which needed doing anyway and so now it sits in the corner of my counter.
Although I use it a few times a week, I thought it would be nice to sew a cover for it to keep it clean. I had just made an easy sew cover for my new Cricut Maker, so I was on a roll. I also recently upgraded my sewing machine so I’m wanting to sew all the time now.
For reference, I have the 6-quart, Instant Pot Ultra 10 in 1. I’m not sure if all 6-quarts are the same size. My finished size was 13 inches across and 10 inches tall.
What Kind of Fabric is Best for the Easy Sew Instant Pot Cover?
My initial instinct was quilting cottons. There are just so many pretty patterns. Plus, cotton is machine washable. I can just toss it in the laundry every once in a while. Things in my kitchen are susceptible to splatters and such and so something that is machine washable is a definite must.
But what would be better? I remembered my blog post on how to make reusable snack bags, where I used a polyurethane-coated fabric that was not only washable but could also be wiped down for a quick clean. This eco-friendly fabric was from Impwear. This was the exact fabric that I needed to use.

Construction of the Easy Sew Instant Pot Cover
This really is an easy-sew project. It consists of 2 pieces – the top, which is a circle and a piece that wraps around the body.
In order to have some structure, I also sewed a lining to it. This is where you can use those pretty quilting cottons. I opted for a coordinating flannel as I love the softness.

Materials Needed to Make an Easy Sew Instant Pot Cover
things you need
- Main fabric – 3/4 yard or .7 meter. You may need more if using a fabric that will shrink a lot. Make sure it is at least 45 inches wide.
- Lining fabric – 3/4 yard or .7 meter. Again, you may more if shrinkage is an issue. Make sure it is at least 45 inches wide.
- Sewing machine
- Sewing notions – thread, scissors or rotary cutter, etc.
Prepare and Cut Your Fabric
If you suspect that shrinkage is an issue, I would prewash the fabric. You don’t want any surprises later on.
CUT
Main Fabric & Lining Fabric
- 11×43 (basically a long rectangle)
- 14-inch diameter circle
In order to cut the circle, I find the easiest is to have a template cut out of paper. I made one using a half-circle, placed on the fold.
I have the template on my Cricut Design Space. Just cut on paper and you’ll have it. This file is available in my Free Resource Library. In order to gain access to my Free Resource Library, you’ll find the password at the bottom of my emails when you subscribe.

Simply cut the half-circle template on some paper. I used a piece of 11×17 photocopy paper for mine. You will need to use a 12×24 mat. Remember to place it on the fold. I didn’t want to do print and cut, so I labelled it after it was cut.
If your Instant Pot is slightly different in size, you will need to increase or decrease the size of the circle (easily done on Cricut Design Space) and adjust the long rectangle accordingly.

How to Sew Your Instant Pot Cover
Please note that I use 1/2 inch seam allowance.
- With right sides together, fold the long, rectangular piece in half and sew the side seam so that it forms a tube.
- Sew this tube to your circle. You will need to gently stretch the rectangular part to fit the circle.
- Do this for both the main fabric and the lining fabric.
- Check for fit on your Instant Pot.
- With the main fabric turned inside out, put the lining fabric inside so that right sides are together.
- Sew along the bottom edge, leaving a 4-inch opening.
- Turn right side out using that 4-inch opening.
- Turn the fabric on the bottom edge opening in and sew around the bottom, close to the edge. This will not only hold the 2 pieces together but will also close up that opening. Alternately, you could also hand sew the opening closed.
Now all you have to do is put it over your Instant Pot. This is a pretty quick and easy sewing project that you could whip up in an evening.
I love how it looks in the corner of my kitchen.
