How to Put HTV on Fleece | Yes You Can!
Here we are on Day 11 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting. Today we’re going to talk about putting HTV on fleece. I get asked this question a lot – can you put heat transfer vinyl or HTV on fleece?Â
One of the biggest concerns is that fleece is typically made out of polyester and so one would worry that the high heat would melt or destroy the fleece.
So Can You Put HTV on Fleece?
I’m happy to tell you that you can indeed put HTV on fleece! It’s pretty much the exact same procedure as you would put HTV on anything else. Check out my how-to guide, all about HTV here.
I got some nice fleece throws to gift for Christmas. Fleece throws can be purchased at a number of retailers, for a variety of price points. You could even sew up some fleece throws. They make great gifts.
What Type of HTV Works best?
To add a nice extra touch to fleece throws, it’s nice to be able to put HTV on them. For me, personally, since the fleece is so nice and soft, I prefer to use flock HTV. Flocked HTV is fuzzy HTV and so it has a similar feel to it. I thought it would be nicer than the plasticky feeling that HTV can sometimes have. This way, when curled up on the sofa watching Christmas movies, the flock HTV blends with the fleece. You may recall I also used flock HTV for stuffed animals. You can read all about how to use flock HTV in this blog post here.
How to Apply HTV
on
Stuffed Animals
Flock HTV requires a higher temperature for application. My heat press is set to 160 degrees. Even at that higher temperature, the fleece did not melt or break down. Don’t forget that flock HTV is a cold peel – so resist the urge to pull that carrier sheet off right away.
That said, I have also used regular heat transfer vinyl on a fleece throw and it turned out perfectly fine.

I had also heard some people say that certain patterns, buffalo plaid specifically can bleed through regular vinyl. This can be remedied by using flock or glitter vinyl which is a bit thicker and therefore it does not bleed through.
I love how this cozy throw turned out. I can’t wait to gift it to my friends this Christmas.Â

What brand of htv did you use?
Hello. I use MultiCut Flock vinyl from Joto Imaging, which is a local supplier.
Did you wash the blanket first? If so do you dry to preshrink too?
Hello! I did not prewash. This was a gift and so I did not prewash (similarly to when I make t-shirts). I don’t find that there is any shrinkage when it comes to fleece. Hope this helps.
Do you use a Cricut easy press? If so, what setting/heat did you put it on?
I used my heat press. When in doubt, do shorter, but more frequent pressings so that you know it is on okay.
How did the fleece abs HTV hold up after washing?( Care instructions for blanket after application of HTv)
The fleece I used was a throw and so it isn’t washed frequently. So far so good. If it were something like a garment, I’d wash inside out (like you would likely do with any HTV) in order to prolong the life of the HTV.
