Christmas Tree Skirt and Garland | Crochet Pattern
I love decorating our home for Christmas. I don’t really decorate for many other holidays, but there’s something magical about Christmas and all the Christmas decorations. Here’s how to crochet a Christmas tree skirt and garland.
While out shopping, I notice that many stores have knitted or crocheted home decor. Stores such as Anthropologie and Crate and Barrel both carry knitted tree skirts. The tree skirts are like cozy sweaters for your Christmas tree – what’s not to love about that? I knew I had to make my own crochet Christmas tree skirt and garland.
Crochet Christmas Tree Skirt
So when I came upon the pattern for the Farmhouse tree skirt, I knew I had to make it. This paid pattern is from Cozy Nooks and can be found on Etsy here. This is the first time I’ve made a pattern from Cozy Nooks. She has many nice designs. This particular pattern is fairly easy and was well written and easy to follow.
This pattern uses Wool-Ease Thick and Quick which is readily available at Michaels and comes in many colours to choose from I love the cream colour as it is such a nice neutral and the colourway Starlight has a gold thread that goes through it making it that little bit special.
The tree skirt pattern uses 8 skeins of yarn. This crochet pattern uses 2 strands at the same time which results in a thick and plush tree skirt that works up fairly quickly. I did find, however, that working with 2 strands is hard on the hand and I had to take frequent breaks.
The pattern suggests buttons to close the skirt up but it also works without as well – simply put the opening at the back. Even Barry likes the tree skirt – he must think it’s a nice blanket for him to lay on.
While shopping at Crate and Barrel I saw a similar knitted tree skirt that had a matching garland. I knew I had to make something to match the Farmhouse tree skirt.

Crochet garland
Using the same double strand of yarn, I simply did a foundation double crochet chain. I had half of 2 skeins left and used another 2 skeins. I made 2 garlands, each 120 inches long. What’s great about doing this by FDC is that you just keep going until you reach the desired length. Two separate garlands make it easier to put on the tree than one super long garland. The double-strand makes it substantial enough and the FDC matches the stitches of the tree skirt.
I love the look of our Christmas tree skirt and garland. I feel that it’s more personal and meaningful to our family.
